Sweet Potato Chips

Since I’ve discovered these sweet little munchies, I can’t get enough of them. Anywhere I can, I get them or their fry-shaped counterparts, but that usually includes dealing out more money than I’d like. By waiting for sweet potatoes to go on sale (69¢ here in the south) and making them myself, It’ll cost me less than $1 per serving. The sugar, olive oil, and spices might cost a few bucks, but those can last for a long time and are well worth the investment.

2 sweet potatoes
5 tsp brown sugar
3 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp paprika (optional)
≈4 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F, then rinse and peel the potatoes. Slice them no bigger than 1/4 in. thick. If you’re having trouble cutting the little suckers, microwave the potato for a bit, around 20 seconds. Poke holes in it just in case, so they don’t explode.
  2. Combine your spices in large sandwich bag (quart or bigger), adding the olive oil in last. Note: you will most likely need to do 2 batches. Mix those together before adding in the sweet potato slices. Now the fun part: shake the heck out of that thing, preferably over a sink.
  3. Grease a pan with a bit of olive oil, place as many chips as you can on it, and let them bake for 8 minutes. Flip them over and let them bake for another 8 minutes or until crispy.
